Dental Services

Dental care is important in pets to maintain good health. We are encouraging all pet owners to practice good dental hygiene in their pets. This involves routing cleaning and polishing when needed as well as home care. There are no dental products that will remove tartar and calculus already on teeth. This requires general anesthesia, scaling and polishing by trained veterinary professionals. After a dental or at a young age there are a variety of home products that will help keep your pets healthy.

The more tartar and calculus accumulation on an animals’ teeth, the longer and more involved the dental cleaning is. The prices reflect the fees for routine cleaning and polishing. There may be additional services required for your pet depending on the condition of the mouth. There is a listing of these procedures also. There are veterinary dental specialists that can assist in root canal, crown replacement, and this type of service. We can certainly refer you if that is how you wish to handle some of the additional procedures.

When a tooth has a heavy amount of calculus it can create a pocket between the tooth and the gum. There is a new product on the market that allows us to pack an antibiotic gel into the subgingival pockets in an effort to help save the tooth. The product is called Doxirobe periceutical gel. It is recommended to bring the animal back in 6 months after application to reassess the tooth. If there is still a pocket it may need to be repacked. Generally this procedure has very good results. In most cases the only other options are extraction or referral to the specialist.

Please let us know when you bring your pet in for the dental if you would prefer the gel application, extraction, or referral for bad teeth. Animals with bad gingivitis may need antibiotics before and/or after a dental procedure. We will also chart your pets’ teeth while they are under anesthesia for the cleaning.

Gingivitis is a constant exposure to infection and bacteria that can damage your animals’ internal organs and shorten their life expectancy. So protect your pet, schedule a dental cleaning today if needed. Practice home dental care, our staff will be happy to help you select the product that will work best for you and your pet. We also offer fluoride treatment for young animals when they come in for routine anesthetic procedures.
